Herefords at the Grey Barn

I did something like this is a smaller format 12" x 6". This is not much larger, but I believe in baby steps. I switched the cattle to Herefords because I liked the contrast of the reddish fur against the blue. I did add one mixed breed, not sure if that was a good idea. This is oil and I can wipe that off and make another Hereford.

Winter Cattle Study

I want to paint larger but need to work out the composition. This is the gray barn I painted earlier. I added the cattle from another photo reference. I have photos of Herefords that I may use to try to add some nice warm colors against the cool.

Portrait of a Cow in her Winter Coat

I wiped this panel of the image from the previous post and started over. This was what I wanted to paint in the first place, so it is just as well that the other one didn't turn out.  The heavy winter coat on this Hereford showed interesting shades of rusty brown. The white fur in shadow against the white snow in sunlight begged to be painted and the contrast of the grayed distant trees promised to give me depth.

Herefords Heading to the Barn

This was from a photo I took last year. I loved the reddish brown against the blue shadows.

American White Park Calf

Demo from the art Center in Burlington during the sidewalk sales. Enjoyed talking to the shoppers. I picked this subject because the kids like animals.

Sunset on the Cattle Pasture

This is a larger version of a previous study. This was painted on a orange pink ground. The study was on painted on a pink ground.
20" x 10" oil on Ampersand panel.

I am thinking that maybe it needs to be cropped.

Summer Pasture

This is a large painting based on a previous study. I reworked it especially with the cattle in front trying to give it depth and scale. This is painted for the upcoming auction in support of the local art center. I asked a few artists what to donate and they suggested that my snow scenes would not be popular after this tough winter. So a nice summer scene it is.

Herefords in the Sunlight

I love the color of Herefords. The reddish brown against the white make for great color schemes. This started on a dull yellow ochre ground.
