Maraschino Cherries

SOLD
The last jar of Maraschino cherries I bought did not have the stems, so what good are they? I know they didn't end up in my paintings. They don't look as appealing on top of a sundae. I guess you could chop them up and use the cherries in recipes. I just ate them plain.

Cat in the Sheets

The angle of the this is basically straight on which is kind of good for the dark grey cat. Usually I like a strong shadow from the side. The shadow in this comes from the wrinkles in the sheet.

Fujis Three

I sat this up on plexiglass and in the sunlight. It was a hot day yesterday but I like being outside. My original plan was to paint more hydraengas but they were so wilted. I may check on them this morning.

My hydraengas are finally in bloom. They are in the shade so it takes a while before they start to bloom.

Reading to Clem the Cat

A cat showed up at my daughter's house three weeks ago. My grandaughter loves cats and they have put her off her requests to get one. They even gave her one of those mechanical cats for Christmas. She befriended this one the first day it showed up. This cat was so easy going and put up with her carrying her around. Of course there was no choice put to take him in when no one answered the found ad. Hannah got her cat and Clem got a home.

Rocks

I was at the garden tour and this is what I decided to paint. I am not sure what this is called. This posed the challenge of painting different grays.

Shasta Daisy

I was in a hurry this morning to kick out one more painting before the garden tour. I think that helped me produce a better watercolor. What I always liked was the fluid spontaneous use of the medium.

Hollyhocks on the Garden Tour

I am painting plein air at the local Garden Tour. I will usually take photos ahead of time in case the painting I am working on does not turn out. I want the visitors to know that yes I can paint better than that.

Green Apple

More ribbon paintings to come. I did buy some more but this one is still the best because of the shiny surface. The ribbons are challenging so I add an apple which is just fun.

Glass Apple gift

This is my entry for last week's Daily Paintworks Challenge, to paint a gift you received. This was a glass apple that I had wanted for painting props. I got three of them and have used them several times in paintings.

Arabian Bay no10

SOLD
I painted this with a small and smaller brush. I started with a dark sienna and ultramarine mix and mineral spirits then pulled up my lights. The small brush I used was frayed. I did use a smaller brush for the features. The medium I used for this was Liquin fine detail. This gave me a wet into wet. I am always experimenting with processes.

Peonies no9

This peonies are gone now. This is from a photograph. The blooms were wonderful this year. The dark red peonie bush usually may have one maybe two blooms but this year it had around 10 blooms.

Hannah Chasing Addison

This is the rough in for a painting. I used Alkyd Lite.

This is the latest painting. I used Liquin Fine Detail on this. I am not sure of the background, so it sets on my easel for now.

Ribbons

Still playing with the ribbons. The problem is these are not shiny ribbons which would be a lot more fun. The polka dot ribbon has pink dots with green background on one side and green dots with a pink background on the other side.

Molly Dog fixed

SOLD
If this looks familiar that's because I painted it earlier and decided to make changes. Mostly on and around the face to draw attention to it.

Molly Up Close

I have not spent much time painting or drawing dogs. When I did it was a commission. That is what this painting is. I find it challenging and maybe I need to do this more often especially since I have dogs of my own. One is a Dashound who is so cute.

A Ribbon Runs Through It

This week's daily paintworks challenge was to paint stripes. I went to the fabric store for striped fabric and found the ribbons on sale at half price. The little bottle is a decoupaged with sheet music and buttons, which was a challenge to paint because is has to say decoupage and you expect transparent glass.

From the Rose Garden

This is another from the Rose Garden. This is a good year for roses. Roses are one of those subjects that I work hard on. I remember a watercolor artist who painted plein air at the art fairs. She was so good at flowers especially roses. I believe that practice is important, not that she didn't have talent in place to start out with.

Coconut Cream pie

This is a challenge for me, painting yellow in shadow. If you had checked my blog on Sunday you would have seen this as a cream pie. The original pie was coconut cream. I was just afraid that I couldn't pull off the coconut and chickened out. I got up my nerve and added the coconut Oh well, I still got to eat the pie.

This is the previous painting.
