Last weekend I joined some artists for a paint out at the rose garden in Bentonsport, Iowa. The roses are thick this year and so inspiring. This painting is from a photograph because my on site painting was embarrasingly bad, or maybe it was just a warmup for this one.

This one is lovely. I know painting plein air can be so difficult. You're right about needing to warm up. I'm going to remember that next time I go out. Perhaps a few sketches first. Either way, it's fun!
