Riverview at Bonaparte Iowa

Finished at the last volunteer portrait session, just need to tweak it now. Pulled up a photo on my challenge list. Capturing the many rocks in the water and the distant shoreline make this a scene I need to work on. I also started with a white canvas, not ideal.

After the Rain

This was in a previous post as a study. I had stopped on my way to another plein air painting location. This stream is close to a bridge which I could set up under to paint this plein air. I just need to buy rain boots. They now come in lots of fun colors and styles, not like when I was growing up on the farm and all you had were army green rubber boots.

Fishing in a Blue Boat

We went out plein air painting at Wilson lake. Although the trees lost there color early or did not have much this year I found this blue in blue fisherman. Painting as fast as I could I managed to get him done before he moved on. Then I worked on the landscape behind him with a tip from Jessica to paint the tree holes a darker shade of blue than the more open sky above. The sun was shining at me but that is what made the great light on the fisherman.

Niota Creek study

Another study of the creek in Niota. We have had a lot of rain lately and once the sun comes out I may go there and plein air paint. I would think that the branch over the falls is probably gone, hopefully replaced with another log or I will have to make it up.

Rocks on the Skunk River

The rocks reflections in the water was the challenge for this painting. This was from one of my plein air painting days where the the on site painting did not turn out that well.

Quarry and Still Water

This is another painting of the quarry in Mount Vernon, Iowa. I never tire of painting rocks and water. I am planning to go back to this spot sometime this summer so in the meantime painting from photos is the only option.

Pollmiller Park Boat Ramp

SOLD

The waters were rather still this day. The still waters made for a boring painting so I added small waves.
This painting was donated to a local fundraiser.
