The Arts Enrich Our Lives

Saturday I participated in a plein air competition in Bloomfield, Iowa. A favorite part of these events is reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. Richard Dutton, now a retired college art teacher made the two and a half hour drive to participate. He was also my first watercolor workshop teacher over twenty five years ago. I remember he started by saying he wakes up every day looking forward to teaching art. At 78 he is still teaching workshops, entering competitions and art fairs. A true teacher, he came over and advised me to stop on this painting or I could end up overworking it. I was his competitor in this event and won first place with it. When trying to explain why the arts matter I am reminded of Richard active and still enjoying this long after "retirement"

  1. Hello Carlene. Would you consider painting another Court House Door. I wish I could have purchased the first one at the exhibition. That was a really good show. Lots of talent. It was difficult to judge. Thanks. Lisa

  2. Do you still have the "Watcher in the Woods" painting ?It will be too cold to paint outside now will it not? I like the wreath in the original "Court House Door". How ever you prefer to do it. Let me know. Thanks. Lisa

    1. I agree the wreath was what attracted me. I can hold onto the "Watcher in the Woods" in case I can't get over there to paint this scene again. Was this a present?

  3. Both paintings would be for me. No time limit to be concerned about. What is the price on the "Watcher in the Woods"? I would like to get to Fort Madison some time to see your work.

    1. Same as the courthouse. There is a opening reception at the Fort Madison Art Center Friday Dec. 15th if you are thinking about coming to Fort Madison. Always a good show. I can bring it to the reception if that fits your schedule.
