Jack on the Rocks

Sold
The snow is coming down and it is expected to keep snowing till noon tomorrow. My father used to take a shot of whiskey before going out in the Iowa winter. I don't think it really kept him warm but I guess he thought so. This is a little tighter than I would have liked. I painted it, then went back into it a couple of days later to refine the details. I painted this on canvas and I had to fight the surface. I think if I decide to paint this tight again I will paint on Ampersand panel.
8 x 6 oil on canvas to bid at auction

  1. It would certainly keep me warm. I love the way you caught the light not only in the glass but also the glow of the whiskey.

  2. Beautiful painting, love the reflections and the story. This weather could drive one to the bottle. Paint it or drink it?

  3. I want to compliment you on your detail of the label. I've seen "loose" paintings in which the artist was sloppy with the lettering...outside the bounds of actual positioning. You have done the letters loosely, but you've kept them in place. (I hope that makes sense.) Well done!

  4. No struggle is evident - and you did a great job with the lettering!
