Paper Mountain

This is my submission for the latest Daily Paintworks Challenge, to paint crumpled paper. I think I should not have crumpled it so much as I got lost in the details. The cool grays in the paper are a result of mixing the leftover paint in the middle of my pallette in other words; mud.

Cedars at Rodeo Park

The spring weather has come and the parks are full of people again, not just the hardy ones. I took the dogs for a walk, I usually walk off the beaten path as I have a Staffordshire terrier (pit bull) which people tend to be afraid of, (she's a big sissy) left to me when the kid left home. I also have a dachound who was passed around till we ended up with her. She was originally given to my niece by an older woman in a discount store parking lot. We theorized that her grandchildren gave it to her to keep her company. She didn't like it because as she told my niece "It chased her cats". Cat people. She probably told the grandchildren that it ran away. My niece was too busy to keep on top of her housebreaking, so she talked my son into taking it. We went to visit my son to give him his dog back. He gave the dachound to us after chasing it down from under the car. We taught her, now "Lucy" to come when called and housebroke her, which took a while. I never bought a dog as we always end up with dogs that need homes, which is not a bad thing as we end up attached to them.

Snow through the Cedars

I haven't been posting lately because my computer was doing weird things which made it frustating to do anything on it.. I finally convinced my husband to look into it. It turns out my wireless mouse was not communicating with the computer correctly. New mouse, easy fix. Just one of those duh moments after trying almost everything else.

I do not know what kind of paper this is. I have several brands around and this was a partial. It really soaked up the paint which explains how I got the deep reds. Now I wish I knew.

I don't really know what kind of Buterfly/moth this is, but it worked well on the background.

I have not painted in watercolor for a year and this is my first warm up. A little faded. I need to get up to speed as I have a commission due in a month.

David's Chamber

This was painted from a photograph. This location is a favorite spot for plein air painting. One day when painting there with a friend I left a covered pallette on the ground and forgot it. I went back a four days later and it was gone. It was not worth anything to anyone but another artist so I suspect that someone picked it up and threw it in the trash, which was hauled away.

Mari and the Dove

Shortly after first posting this painting I wiped off the background. After thinking about it I decided to make up this background. I may do some minor editing on parts of it, but for the most part this is it. Also I needed to retake the photo under better lighting.

AJ and Trouble

I did not get this finished before night. I usually take pictures in natural light. I will take a photo and repost later.

This was a combination of the two photos. I guessed at the pose on the dog since the photo was the one I used from a previous post, "Australian Shepherd".

White Horse in Winter

The horse was added because I thought it needed something there. I contemplated putting a cow there. Now that I look at it, there needs to be a fence somewhere. Maybe one of those snow fences.

Sneaking Out of the Bag

This is an acrylic painting. Painting in acrylic lets me cover over my whites without worrying about disturbing the paint below. I will use the medium intented for airbrush applications to get some sort of blending techniques. I sometimes paint in acrylic on site to avoid messing with solvents.

Grazing Horses

I have tried this composition several times. I want to make paint it in a larger format but so far I have not been able to pull it together. The two horses each came from different reference material and the background was edited to work with the composition. In this version I reversed the white horse.

Red Rose

I found this vase in a store and like it's shape. I am not sure about how it works with flowers. Maybe with several daisies, something that does not have a heavy flower.

Round Bales in a Square Field

When I was growing up all the bales were square. They made great building blocks and we used to take those bales and build tunnels with them. It was probably not safe but we did a lot of things back then that wasn't safe. I wonder what the kids are doing with these bales?
