Mist on the Water Study

sold
I intended to get out to the lake before 6:30 to paint the trees when the sunlight hits the tops. I did not make it but there was mist on the lake which is an even better scene, if you can capture it. I only brought a 6 x 6 and had to work fast before it settled. The white paint that makes that chalky look is perfect for this scene.

Peonies Gone

A friend of mine asked if she could have some peonies to put on the graves and I said, "Help yourself", Well, she took everything including the buds. I guess I should have told her to at least leave some buds. As a result this was painted from a photo reference.

Run Rabbit Run

SOLD
The reference photo for this is rather blurry. I tried to slowly walk up to this rabbit taking photos. Luckily I did capture this pose before I lost sight of her.

I started this on a white canvas and added a light ground working over that.

Magnolia

Usually the magnolias bloom before the the leaves sprout in this area of the country. This one bloomed late giving me a nice contrast of pink and green.

Skies over Oakland Mills

One of those great skyscapes that move too fast for me to paint plein air. This one was after plein air painting at Oakland Mills.

Evening Star

This is my street view one evening. I did a study a while back before committing to a 16" x 20"

I started with this rough in using Ultramarine and Burnt Sienna.

Plein air in Rodeo

I have painted this scene in the early morning and today I got out there in late afternoon. This is the hiking bridge in Rodeo park. Another practice in painting green and forest scenes with a lot of confusing trees.

The trail was busy this afternoon.

Cool Cows

This is the final painting. I felt that the trees in the background were confusing and took away from the cows. Spotted cows can be challenging.

Found this scene on my way back from plein air painting in Wilson Lake on a hot day.

Wilson Lake Mighty Oak

I am guessing this is an oak tree. It just sounds better in the title. My intention was to paint the lake but the dominant tree in this scene seemed so impressive and I needed to work on my greens. I have been working with pthalo green lately. It is definitely a challenge.

Wilson Lake

sold
I have a cold and couldn't make it out to paint. I managed to get out today for a little while. It was such a wonderful day with the perfect temperature and clear skies.

I have a portrait painting session for tomorrow and the cold is slowly clearing up. Looking forward to it.

Scratch It

Sold
This is a blue roan quarter horse. The day I photographed her was hot and there were lots of knats bothering her. I often would stop along the road on my way through Shimek Forest to take photos of the many horses in the area. This is near River Valley Horse Camp where you can camp and ride the trails through Shimek Forest. Shimek has over 9,000 acres and a lot of trails.

Thunderhead Over the Midwest Landscape

I saw this thunderhead on my way back from plein air painting. The original photo reference had the road ahead. With a little editing in Photoshop I added this landscape.
