Molly Dog

This is a quick sketch for a commission. The dog did not cooperate when I was photographing her so I added a head from another photo to this body. I may have to do more sketches.

Red Rose

Last weekend I joined some artists for a paint out at the rose garden in Bentonsport, Iowa. The roses are thick this year and so inspiring. This painting is from a photograph because my on site painting was embarrasingly bad, or maybe it was just a warmup for this one.

Lambs Running6

In this painting I am trying to add depth. The lambs were each taken from different photos. This is also part of the Daily Paintworks challenge. This is out of my comfort zone. If I didn't do paintings like this I wouldn't learn.

Young Lady

Painting children for me depends on my photography skills. I am not the best photographer so I will take at least a hundred photos. I study the photos for features and will draw maybe 20 sketches, then several small paintings, this is one of them.

This is the second of the lambs running series. I may rearrange them in a different order or just put two of them in the next picture.

Yellow Iris

The irises are almost gone. I thought I better take advantage of it while I still can. I choose this because is show the bud, the flower in bloom and the finished bloom.

Lamb no6

This is the previous painting with acrylic over it to try and save it. Still not liking it enought to sign it.

The color does not match from the one above. I photograph my images outside and it is a little early to get the correct color. This one is photographed in the early sunlight to show the interference paint. I have used it before to bring light to dull areas. I do like the lambs, that is why I had hoped to save this painting. I can cut them out as part of a collage.
This is the Photoshopped image that I started out with. I was pushing myself to try this. All three were from different photos and I had to guess at the light. As you can see the background was completely thrown out in the end.

Lamb no6

This started out as a watercolor. I am painting acrylic over it. I don't think this is working either Sometimes I just don't know when to quit.

Lee County Fair

This is from a photo I took a long time ago. It reminds me of when I was in 4-H. I canned beef for my entry. The judge docked it for not looking appealing. Anyone who ever had it would think otherwise.

Spring Lamb 4

This was the last one painting before putting my paints up. I tried to go with a more muted color pallette and a little different style. I may try it again with photos of the painting in progress.

Spring Lambs 3

This is how the painting started. My rough in is establishing the large blocks of color and a basic profile of the lambs.

The finished painting is still in keeping with the basic design.

Single Spring Lamb

This lamb was probably the youngest one there. They had not bobbed it's tail yet. I did it in the picture because it just seemed "natural".

peonie no3

This is my first peonie bloom. I painted it yesterday and as I look out the window this morning I see about ten out. I have some very deep red that will be a real challenge for me.

Spring Lambs 2

I took three lambs from three different photos and put them together. This is out of my comfort zone and I don't know if this final image works for me. I may try it again or just keep the lamb in front, he works for me. If I do I will repost this.

I Photoshopped this compostition for a painting. I thought I would try to

Arabian sketch

This sketch is on matboard using a black colored pencil. When sketching I don't erase which usually results in something I would not post and call it pratice or learning from my mistakes.
