Orange Rose

This is my entry for the latest Daily Paintworks Challenge, to paint a rose up close. I took the picture of the red rose and cropped it and changed the color.

Hollyhocks on the Garden Tour 2

The garden tour is tomorrow and I do not have enough paintings to display. This is number 2.

Peonies no9

This peonies are gone now. This is from a photograph. The blooms were wonderful this year. The dark red peonie bush usually may have one maybe two blooms but this year it had around 10 blooms.

This is my first peonie bloom. I painted it yesterday and as I look out the window this morning I see about ten out. I have some very deep red that will be a real challenge for me.

White Rose no 2

Red Rose

I found this vase in a store and like it's shape. I am not sure about how it works with flowers. Maybe with several daisies, something that does not have a heavy flower.

Hollyhocks no 2

I thought I'd try the holly hocks with a dark background. The photo reference for this one the flowers were lighter than the background.

Hollyhocks

I remember on the farm where I grew up there were hollyhocks growing on the side of the garage. There didn't last long, not sure why they died. They seem like pretty hardy plants. These are the Hollyhock growing on the side of our house and they have survived my lack of a green thumb.

White Roses

I bought some roses and satin fabric for this still life, which seemed like a great set up at the time but maybe for someone else. Roses are not my thing but I love paintings of roses so I keep trying. I am also working at making a light box. I don't think my homemade lightbox works as well as taking photos outside in the right light. I also may have to crop this so the final size is still undetermined.

Amaryllis

Another color challenge with red. This Amaryllis bloomed last year when I took this picture. I could not get it to bloom again. The only time I have a green thumb is when I get paint in it.

magnolia no5

I live in Iowa and the magnolias up here only bloom in the spring of the year before the leaves come out. This year they bloomed a second time in August. I took photographs of them for painting references. Green is a color I struggle with so this is another of those paintings that forces me to work it out.

Peonies no8

I painted plein air yesterday and it did not turn out very well. Today I painted the peonies in my back yard. This turned out much better. These blossoms were very heavy and that is why they turn downward.

Azaleas

This is the last of my Azaleas till next year. I am now in the mood for Geraniums, but I will have to buy them as I have not had much luck keeping them inside till next year.

Magnolia no7

I managed to finish two magnolia paintings plein air painting in front of my house. The time before that I drove 25 miles to Shimek Forest and finished one painting, which when I got home, I wiped off the canvas.

 I bought these carnations and the vase came from friend. I placed the setup on glass to get my reflection.
