Orange Slices

I pick up some oranges from the store and painted alla prima. I started by painting the whole surface a neutral gray and ended up fighting it to get my yellows

This one was a little more challenging and not sure about it. My husband is encouraging me to move in a different direction, enough with the waves. They have been fun and as close to abstract as I get. I do have one more on the easel and hope to finish it up soon. 

I think this summer I may travel to get pictures of clear creeks. Fort Madison is on the banks of the muddy Mississippi and lots of creeks with sediment.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Oakland Mills Dam after the Rains

The dam at Oakland Mills was really flowing this fall. I did a rock painting plein air but the rushing water was beyond my skills, so I took photos. Some of this is creative license. I decided to zoom in on a section where the water hits the concrete, which is easier. My other painting friends were there just before the river flooded, and the next day you could not get into the area to paint.

Christmas Pins again

I had more requests for pins. My husband is a nurse at the local nursing home. One of the workers there was referred to as a red headed angel, thus this pin for her.

Rabbits are easier to make than angels.

For the grandchildren rocking horses.

This was how I started with ultramarine blue and burnt sienna. then wiped off the light areas, putting white paint over that to increase the contrast.

Christmas pins

 Every year I tried to make a few Christmas pins to give out. These are created with painting watercolor and ink on mat board and then sprayed with a fixative. The frames are beads dipped in GAC100; not very even rows but you get the idea. I will paint at least one angel.

This was a special request. 

I do several white rabbits in the snow.

There are always a few rocking horses. 

Another special request this one for a Bichon Frise. 

Please excuse the pinterest pins, I was lucky to get the ones in I did.

Mighty Oak

This is a scene on my way to West Point. The cattle add scale to the one tree.

Follow in Their Tracks

My husband commented that he thought that the cows in a row was awkward. In the snow they follow each others tracks, especially with young ones in tow. 

This is from a photo taken last winter. We have not had any snow yet so my desire to paint it will rely on my memories and photos for now.
