Egg Shell

This is my Daily Paintworks challenge entry. I have always been amazed at the paintings of white on white egg shells. I avoided them for fear of failure. Even though this painting could be inproved on I thoughly enjoyed painting it. The purpose of these challenges are to make step out of our comfort zone. I plan to do more egg shell paintings.

Fall on the Lake

I have a commission for a fall scene. The client wanted it displayed when the leaves turn color, so I have to work from photos. This is just a small warm up.

Lone Tree

This is a subject I come back to often. I love the gnarly trunk and branches of this tree. It is in Rodeo park and sets out in the open. I have always called it Lone tree because that is what I remember it called in my youth. When I mention that name nobody seems to know what tree I am talking about. Maybe Lone Tree is the unofficial name for it.

Cupcake and Cherry 2

I painted this first in watercolor. I decided to try it in oil. Although I think I may have used a slightly different photo. Below is the watercolor.

Buckskin

SOLD

This is one of the horses from the previous painting. I started painting this one at an event at the local art center. I had to fix it when I got home. The event was part of the lead in to the local rodeo, so painting a horse sounded like a good ideal. But they are hard to paint and I edited the front legs from the original photo. I guess I got in over my head.

Skunk River access 5

Today the clouds were amazing. I don't think I did them justice but I took enough photos that in the studio I hope to do a better job.

Horse Pasture with Foals

This is a work in progress. I need to work more on the horses. They are difficult when it comes to anatomy and making them look natural.

Skunk River access 3

It was cloudy with the sun showing intermittently. I tried to make it sunny but lost some of my light during the two hours it took to paint.

Skunk River Access 2

This view is from the opposite high bank on the Skunk river. I did not have a great view of the river bend and this view was a challenge for me. I took the Lucy and Callie again so they can run. The little dashound, Lucy ran in the tall weeds and up and down the steep bank while the big one Callie just sat there trying to eat bugs. Callie is a little over weight and running around is good for only so long.

Skunk River Access

This was a great spot for painting but I was not up to it. I wiped this clean. This is the skunk river and the drought has left it with a lot of exposed river banks. I did not capture the expanse of the river and the distance acurately. Along the river the conservation board has recreation areas with access to the river for boating. I carried my french easel down the ramp and set up in the rocks. On this trip I took the dogs, they don't wander off too far and as long as there aren't any people around they wouldn't bother anyone.

Rodeo Park South Trail

I went plein air painting this morning and I think I am going to keep this one. I feel better about my greens.

Lotus on the Mississippi

Today was overcast which makes plein air painting very challenging for me. This painting was my best effort and that is just not enough. I was so dissappionted with it I wiped it clean and intend to try again later today.

Rodeo Park plein air no2

The weather has been nice this morning so I can go back to plein air painting. I thought I found an isolated part of the trail but during the two hours I was there at least ten walkers came by.

Fallen Tree Wilson Lake

This tree has been here for over a year. I am glad they did not haul it away. This time I did not take the dog and I think she suspected I was going to the timber. If I put on my fanny pack and grab my easel she knows.

Shimek Forest 2

When I plein air paint I have to change me view of colors. Since it is brighter outside I end up with muted colors.
I did take my dashound with me and he ran off. I called for about 10 minutes and he showed up coming out of the tall weeds.
