Plein Air Peony

On Memorial Day the parks are busy, so I was reluctant to go painting there. It is not that I mind people watching, just that I will be in the way unless I lug my stuff down the trails out of the way. The weather forecast was predicting rain so I decided to set up in my yard and paint the peonies. The sun was shining when I started but soon came and went. The blooms also changed as they were opening while I was painting. This was a good painting exercise.

Three Shades of Equine

SOLD
Another painting from the horses near Shimek. I had to move these around to get the composition I wanted. The background trees were made up because I did not like the original landscape.

This started out on a ground left over from the previous painting. A quick sketch into the ground to work out the conformation of the horses.

Next I worked on the horses, if they don't turn out no use painting the landscape.

Hay Bales 2

I wanted to start this as an 8" x 16" but decided on a 6" x 12" study first. Tomorrow I am going to try to find this spot and do a plein air painting also.
6 x 12 oil on canvas

This is the in process image. I need to see how the changes went and decided that the finished painting needed to have more depth. When comparing the two you will see where I added more blue and dulled the distant landscape. I do like this stage for the brighter bolder color.

Reflections of the Quarry

Earlier I painted a 8" x 6" version of this. I was happy with it enough to do this larger version.

Geranium

Geraniums are in the garden centers now so I had to take advantage and paint one. Painting the pinkest reds are a challenge.
